The UHRSC celebrates its birthday in February and each year we mark
this event by presenting the Birthday Cup to a club member who has given
something special to/achieved excellence in roller sports during the
previous year. It is expected the person will have had a well-rounded
approach to the sport both competing and assisting others in the club.
Nominations are invited from club members, with the recipient chosen
by a person with no connection to the nominees.
This year, on the clubs 30th birthday, the cup has been awarded
to Jordan Bougen in recognition of an excellent year of skating and
involvement in the club. Jordan has consistently medalled in her Cadet
International Grade for Figures and Solo Dance, Intermediate grade for
Freeskating and Open grade for Loops throughout 2011 and the 2012 Nationals.
She was the winner of the Jack Fanthorpe Shield for outstanding performance
up to Cadet International Grade at Nationals and she has involved herself
in club team events including Precision and Show Skate. She is also
a regular coach at Patch Class and assistant at Patch Dance Class. Well
done Jordan.
Patch Class resumes for 2012 on Tuesday February 7th, 5.30 - 6.30pm and Kiwi Speed on Wednesday February 8th at UH Civic 4.00 -6.00pm
Learn to skate lessons are held each Tuesday night at 5.30pm at the rink in Goodshed Road. Learn to Speed Skate lessons are held on Wednesday night at 4.00pm at Riverstrone Recreation (next to H2Oxtream). The first Patch class of 2011 will be on Tuesday the 8th of February, and the first Kiwi Speed class on Wednesday the 9th of February. These classes do not run during the school holidays.
The Beginners' Dance Class coached by Raynor Stratford will begin again
on Saturday March 10. Classes are for one hour from 2 - 3pm and ALL
skaters from Patch 3 onwards who wish to learn basic dances (through
to solo dance medal 2) are welcome to attend. There is no charge for
lessons, however, skaters must switch to a part or full card (from a
patch card) if they wish to continue attendance at the class after their
third Saturday lesson. If you already have a private coach for solo
dance and have not yet achieved medal two, you are welcome to attend
and get the extra practice, but please ensure you have advised your
dance coach of your attendance at the Saturday class
